Bomb threat cited

Published: 10:36 AM, 08/20/2008

A bomb threat caused students to be evacuated from Lenoir City High School Monday afternoon.

Lenoir City Director of Schools Wayne Miller said someone phoned the school claiming a bomb was on location at about 1 p.m. and students were dismissed at about 2:45 p.m.

“It happened during lunch, so sou can imagine it made it a pretty fluid deal,” Miller said of moving students from the building.  “ [We] secured the kids as best we could, and then had to wait until the bomb dog came in before we could verify it was safe to put them back in the building.”

He noted the Lenoir City fire and police departments, as well as numerous emergency medical technicians responded.

The investigation is continuing, officials said.
