Lenoir City Parks and Recreation Director Steve Harrelson was
optimistic the show would go on, and as of 3:30 p.m. Saturday Rockin' the Docks was still continuing
despite heavy rains.
The event kicked off at 4 p.m. with live music right on schedule, but
shortly after it was evident that the weather would not cooperate.
"We've been here setting
up all day," Harrelson said. "It was a little shower then it would clear up, another little shower
then it would clear up. Then about 4 p.m. it just opened up and the forecast doesn't look
More rain in the forecast Sunday led to the decision to move the fireworks show that
was to cap off Rockin' the Docks Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday instead.
"We've had more rain
this year than I don't know when," Harrelson said. "This is just a continuation of a wet couple of
weeks. Hopefully Monday night the weather will cooperate. It will still be a good firework show
Harrelson said this is the first year the firework show has been postponed
since the department began hosting the event in 2001, when it was moved to the following
