Addison Bible may become a name in Greenback lore for years to come that echoes the way Bucky Dent does through Boston Red Sox history.

Bible, a sophomore, led a Coalfield running game that troubled the Cherokees all night as Greenback fell 34-31 in the state semi-final.

Heading into the game everything seemed to be falling into place for a trip to the state championship. One of the top offenses and defenses in the state of Tennessee, Greenback was in a position to host both the quarterfinal and semifinal.

That all came to an end, though, as Coalfield's offense gave Greenback far more than they could handle.

Coalfield drove 75 yards on the opening drive without a single pass. Greenback was called for hitting a player low and quarterback Ryan Hill kept it on a misdirection play for a Coalfield touchdown to start the game.

The point after was missed, and Greenback used just four plays to score on a 36-yard pass from Eric Anderson to Brock Moore.

Greenback led 7-6, it would be their only lead of the game.

Coalfield's next two drives ended on touchdown runs from Bible, with a Greenback three and out sandwiched in between.

"It's frustrating," Greenback coach Justin Ridge said. "They ran right every time and we had five guys over there and we still couldn't stop it. Any  time we stopped it a little bit they kept it on the back side."

Greenback drove for a touchdown on the ensuing possession and threatened to tie the game on a recovered fumble and a three and out late in the first half, but each drive following stalled just outside the red zone.

To start the second half the Cherokees had possession. The team ran a half back pass with Richard Seymour connecting with Moore for 40 yards. They were not able to punch it in, though, and instead settled for a field goal.

On the first offensive play for the Yellow Jackets, Hill attempted a deep pass, which was intercepted by Anderson. Three plays later though, Anderson threw an interception of his own when the coalfield defense did not bit on a double move from the Cherokees wide out.

Coalfield responded with another touchdown rush from Bible. The Yellow Jackets recovered a short kickoff and began to drive down for another score.

This drive, though, ended with a fumbled recovery from Anderson, which he returned for a touchdown to close the game to 28-23.

The Yellow Jackets scored  on a 70-yard drive in response, ending with a 7-yard pass on fourth down and goal. The lead was back to 11 for Coalfield.

Greenback's next drive ended just outside the red zone again with a turnover on down. Defensively, the Cherokees followed up with only their second three and out of the game.

After a short punt, Greenback drove 48 yards on six plays, ending with a pass from Anderson to Hunter Cope. The two connected again for a two-point conversion.

Trailing by three with 1:30 left in the game Greenback needed an on side kick to stay alive.

The kick from Braxton Fox traveled 10 yards and was recovered by the Cherokees. However, the referees said it had been touched before crossing the 10-yard mark, giving possession to Coalfield.

"I think we have the best kids around," offensive coordinator Jason Hicks said. "There is never any doubt how hard our kids are going to play or how hard they're going to work. I'm extremely proud of them. They literally fought to the last second. I couldn't be more proud of them."
