(Last modified: 2012-10-26 13:45:43) Source: News-Herald Loudon's Quarterback Club hosted Roger's Creek Saturday, winning three of four games against the Warriors.
The Crickets opened things by losing 22-0. Despite rushing for 135 yards as a team, Loudon was not able to cross the goal line. Adam Hawkins recorded six tackles in the game, and Dalton Williams added four and a fumble recovery. In the second game, Loudon bounced back as the Hoppers won 36-0. A trio of first-quarter touchdowns paved the way for the Redskins as Donavon Blankenship, Cody Glass and Semy Turner each scored. Jose Gonzalez and Mikah Thaxton also scored in the game. Jo Wiggins converted for two points on all five Hoppers touchdowns. The two teams continued to play following the mercy rule. With the score frozen, Cody Glass broke a 70-yard run for his second touchdown of the game. Joshua Gonzalez led the team with five tackles and a fumble recovery. Isaac Cozart also added five stops, and Devan Nichols and Trey Willis each finished with four tackles and a sack. The Hoppers finished 10-0 on the season. Loudon's Mustangs also recorded a shutout, winning 28-0. Noah Burnette returned the opening kick off 72 yards for a touchdown. Drew Jackson grabbed a touchdown reception from Mason Mall on the next Mustangs possession. Cesar Gonzalez scored from 44 yards out in the second quarter and JD Thaxton from 42 yards out in the third. Colten McCurry and Elijah Hinton converted for two on the plays. With the score frozen in the fourth quarter, Thaxton caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Harley Cornett. Jackson finished with five tackles and a sack to lead the team. Jason Blevins added four stops and a sack, and Gage Henson and McMurry each added three tackles and a sack. With the win, the Mustangs improved to 9-1. In Saturday's final game, the Loudon Indians won 46-0. Loudon scored four first-quarter touchdowns. Jeremy Wiggins scored on runs of 37 and 35 yards, Layne Parks recorded a 37-yard interception return and, following a safety from Brody Houston, Cameron Baker returned a kickoff 52 yards for a score. Jesse Hixon scored from 18 yards out in the second quarter, and Josh Russell returned a fumble for a touchdown soon after. Parks, Russell, Hixon and Zach Chapman each recorded a two-point conversion in the game. Parks finished with two tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Loudon's Hoppers and Indians each earned a first round by in the league championship playoffs. The Mustangs will face Riceville at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Tellico Plains. The Crickets, who did not qualify for the league conference tournament, will play in the classic conference tournament against Meigs County at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Tellico Plains.
