Alma (Jones) Simpson, died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, following a brief illness.

She was born in Loudon April 20, 1918 to Paul Cleveland and Annie Harrison Jones and lived most of her life there. She served for several years along side her husband, Postmaster John W. Simpson, at the Loudon Post Office.

She also worked for a time at the Friendly Florist and for the Loudon County school system. She was an active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, serving in various ways including the choir, flower ministry and vacation Bible school.

She was a volunteer with the Red Cross and in her later years cared for family and friends, frequently driving them to Knoxville for medical treatments.

In 1985 she boarded an airplane for the second time in her life and flew to Ghana, Africa to visit a niece and her family. She followed that trip with another to visit a nephew in Caracus, Venezuela, and later a trip to Switzerland with family members. Her most daring adventure was driving with her nephew through Mexico to Guatemala to deliver a truck to missionaries.

She thoroughly enjoyed music, history, genealogy and the beauty in creation. She attempted, with limited success, to teach her nieces and nephews the names of her favorite wild flowers.

Her love of her Lord and her family and friends, her amazingly quick wit and delightful sense of humor were defining attributes of her life.

Her parents, her husband, her sister, Virginia Jones Tedford and her brother, William Jones, preceded her in death.

She was far more than just an aunt to her several nieces and nephews. She loved them well and they adored her.

Rejoicing with her over a life well lived are: David Jones (Susan), Cleve Tedford, Freddie Ann Tittle (John), Mary Bond Holt (Andy), Oscar Tedford (Lucy), John Tedford (Kathy), Joyce Niles, Sarah Atkins (Charles), Bill Simpson and Frankie Simpson along with several great nieces and nephews.

Her special friends are simply too numerous to list.
