George Badiu, 89, Philadelphia, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.
Mr. Badiu was a member and elder of New Harvest Worship Center in Philadelphia. He was a wounded veteran and POW during World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He logged more than one million miles during his career as an interstate truck driver and was employed many years as a district manager with Star News in Pasadena, Calif., among other endeavors. He is preceded in death by son, Danny Freeman Badiu and daughter, Georgie June Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aileen Badiu, Philadelphia; sons, Fred and wife, Melanie Badiu, Sweetwater, David Elisha Badiu, Philadelphia; daughters, Cynthia Elaine Badiu, Gastonia, N.C., Elizabeth Price of Loudon, Cathy Lee and husband, Terry Schlichting, Madisonville, Kathy Ann and husband, Chris Fox of Loudon, Jolene Badiu, Loudon and Shannon Badiu of Lenoir City; 21 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and foster children. No one was ever turned away. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at New Harvest Worship Center, with Bishop William H. Seale officiating. Interment will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday in East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Highway, Knoxville with full military honors provided by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service at New Harvest Worship Center, 2872 Highway 11 N, Philadelphia.
