Thomas Raymond Griffith, 67, of the Tellico Village community, Loudon, formerly of Germantown, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013.
He was born in Nashville on April 8, 1946. Upon graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in industrial engineering, he was employed by the United States Postal Service in Washington, D.C., and Memphis for 36 years as an engineer and operations executive. Tom helped develop and deploy the automated mail processing system. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Loudon, where he served on the vestry and as chair of the finance committee, and was formerly a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Germantown.
Tom was an avid golfer, UT fan and fisherman. He was a supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sarah Emily Griffith, who passed away in 2002; and his parents, Harry R. Griffith and Emily Grigsby Griffith.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nelda Frederick Griffith; beloved son, Thomas Edwards Griffith of Alexandria, Va.; beloved sister, Harriett Griffith Harty and husband, John, of Bristol; along with his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Loudon with the Rev. Claire Keene officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be in St. George's Episcopal Church of Germantown at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Tennessee, Church of the Resurrection Loudon and St. George's Episcopal Church of Germantown.
