Lawrence "Larry" Whalen, 22, passed away suddenly from a car accident on June 3, 2013, outside of Cookeville, where he was residing. He was born and grew up in the Naples, Fla., area until moving to Tennessee in 2010. He was attending Tennessee Technology Center full time for Industrial Maintenance and working at Taco Bell. A jokester and fun loving, life of the party kind of guy, he never met a stranger that didn't turn into a friend.
There was still so much he wanted to accomplish. There are times when things happen that make no sense at all, a young life lost in an instant — and only grief and hurting are left for the people left behind. Somehow the sun rises on another day and no matter how much it hurts, you go on. If I would have known it was the last time, I would have hugged you and never let you go.
He had a multitude of friends from all over and will be missed by each and every one. He will be missed so much by his mother, Nancy Keppel of Loudon and formerly of Marco Island, Fla., and her fiancé William "Bill" Wyatt. He loved his sisters, Brooke Whalen, Gianna and Livia Gaziano-Whalen so much. "They were his girls."
He is also survived by his father, Michael Whalen of Naples, Fla.; and his biggest cheerleader, his grandmother, Ruth Ann "Toby" Keppel of Marco Island, Fla., and Loudon; and numerous other family members.
A celebration of life was held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. June 6, 2013, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home, 800 W. Jackson St. Cookeville, TN 38501. crestlawnmemorial.com
