Henrietta Alice Farrington

Published: 02/14/2013

Henrietta Alice Farrington, 95, of Tellico Village, formerly of Miami, Fla., passed away Feb. 10, 2013 at home. Henrietta was born Aug. 15, 1917 in Raiford, Fla. She was a long time member of Riverside Baptist Church in Miami, but found her new and beloved church home at the First Baptist Church of Tellico Village when she moved from Miami in 2006. She was retired from Eastern Airlines, where she was employed in the revenue accounting department.

Henrietta loved to travel and visited the Orient, Europe and the Holy Lands. She developed her love of travel when she married her husband, Capt. Howard Charles Farrington, who was a ship's captain, traveling extensively throughout Latin America. Henrietta enjoyed visiting the infirmed with her church’s "Care Bears" and her monthly lunches with her dear friends in the "Lady Bugs."

Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Farrington, her father, Jefferson Hudson Dowling, her mothers, Alta Winn Dowling and Beatrice Allen Dowling, her brothers, Joseph Dowling, Hugh Dowling, Roy Dowling, William L. Dowling and Monroe J. Dowling and sisters, Lula Mae Dowling Chase and Francis Dowling Williams.

Henrietta is survived by her son Howard Charles Farrington and his wife, Kristin; her brothers, Earl Dowling, John Dowling and two sisters, Darlene Dowling Sarfas and Nora Dowling; her nieces, Merle Dowling Elmore, Betty Jo Dowling Casey and Wendy Dowling Beville and other loving family members.

The family sends a special thanks to the wonderful physicians, nurses and staff at the Fort Loudoun Medical Center and to the nurses and staff with Amedisys Hospice who provided compassionate care for Henrietta.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Tellico Village with Dr. Charlie Barnard officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Rather than flowers, friends are encouraged to contribute to the First Baptist Church of Tellico Village, or to a favorite charity.
