Nadine McNeeley Brooks

Nadine McNeeley Brooks went to be with Jesus and her heavenly family on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013. She was born in Lafollette, the 13th child of the late Hugh and Belle McNeeley.

She graduated from Lafollette High School and because of the shortage of WWII teachers, the school superintendent asked her father to allow her to teach school in lieu of plans to attend her first year of college. She taught school in both Campbell and Loudon counties after moving to Greenback in 1946.

She was a WWII bride and also contributed to the war effort by working for one of the riveter plants in Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.F. "Buddy" Brooks in 1984; also preceded in death by her father and mother; seven sisters, Ida, Estelle, Edna, Myrtle, Georgia, Nina and Odessa; four brothers, Edgbert, Carl, James and Willard; and two infant sisters, Gladys and Betty Aileen.

She is survived by loving daughters, Judy Burns of Kingston and Nancy Hickman and Pete of Powell; grandchildren, Kara Browning and Brad of Kingston, Dr. Michael Munsey and Lee of Loganville, Ga; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Colt Browning and Josh Munsey; sister, Avanelle Wheeler and Dr. Kenneth Wheeler of Knoxville; step-grandchildren, Pete and Amy Hickman, Rachel Hickman, Julie Hickman and Paul Laberge; and Eddie Hickman; step-great-grandchildren, Audriana Jade Snowden, Anthony and Aaron Hickman, James and Haley Hickman; special McNeeley nieces and nephews; special friends, Sue Bass, Norika Chapman, Lela Leatherwood, Jean Lyons, Ruth Cardwell, Ruth Glardon and Elsa Aiken; and very special Armona Baptist Church friends.

Nadine was an active member of Armona Baptist Church, Louisville, and her church, pastor and church family were very special to her.

Funeral service will be at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 with the Rev. Bob Lawson officiating. Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. before the service. Interment will be held at Sherwood Memorial Gardens 2 p.m. Friday.

The family will depart from Smith Funeral and Cremation Service at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and proceed in processional to the graveside. Pallbearers will be: Shane Ryan, Brad Browning, Dan Robbins, Pete Mueller, Larry Bass and Pete Anthony Hickman. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Brown and Joe McNeeley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Missions Fund at Armona Baptist Church, 2211 Louisville Road, Alcoa, TN 37701.
