George Madison Davis, 88, Lenoir City, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 while at his home surrounded by his family.
George was a loving, gentle and caring man, who loved God and his family. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy in World War II on the USS Whitehurst DE-634.
He was a member of Silver Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Lenoir City since 2007 and formerly served 48 years as the church clerk of Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church in Knoxville where he was one of the founding members. George was a retired television repairman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston (known as Huey) and Artie Lee (Ezell) Davis; siblings, Leona Masterson, Jack Davis and Eugene Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Emma (Smith) Davis; children, Philip Doyle Davis and wife, Patricia, Dale Lowell Davis and wife, Cheryl; granddaughters, Jennifer and Brittany Davis, Whitney Bean and husband, Allen, Sarah Davis and fiancè, Matthew Plyler; great-grandson, Micah, who was Papaw's little buddy; brothers, Olen Davis and Lynn Davis; sisters, Marietta Blevins and Thelma Burdett; and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services followed at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Wells officiating.
Family and friends will gather 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery for graveside services and interment. Military honors will be conferred by the Loudon County Veterans Honor Guard. Click Funeral Home, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements.
